Topics may change depending on the school. Many of the topics are applicable from Elementary through to the High Schools, but some issues change based on the individual school or age group of students.
Term Limits: My opponent has been on the school board for 28 years; longer than Ruth Bader Ginsberg served on the Supreme Court. While it is hard to remove incumbents from office, it is time for a change! My plan when in office is to push for term limits. The growth of Clay County when Carol went into office was no different than the growth, we are facing experiencing today. Back in 1992, nobody had heard of Fleming Island and Eagle Harbor was just beginning to be built. CR 220 was still a quick country road between US 17 and SR 21. With my experience in Real Estate and Business, the next growth for this county will be invigorating and something I can bring fresh fore sight with new vision.
Protecting Schools: The State of Florida has mandated that each public school have a police officer on site. Because the former Superintendent and Sheriff would not negotiate between themselves a fair price, the School Police was established under the School Board. I do not feel, with all the School Board has on their plate, they need to be in the policing business. To utilize all police vehicles, personal training, and administrative expenses more efficiently I will be voting for the police to be under the Clay County Sheriff’s office, when the vote comes up in 2 years. This does not mean anyone will lose their current position but just move under the management and training of the CCSO where it belongs. All current School Board candidates agreed to the same in our live televised debate.
